Golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos)
The golden eagle is a magnificent, huge bird of prey with a wingspan of more than 2 metres. Almost all breeding golden eagles in Britain are found in Scotland. This is because there are many open, treeless areas down to sea level which is ideal for the Eagles to hunt for food.
Golden eagles don't like being disturbed and so they build their nests in remote, inaccessible places. Golden eagles in Scotland do not migrate with the change of seasons and will stay in their breeding grounds throughout the year.
